Founded in 1948 by George Gundersdorf and Richard Upson in Springfield, MA, Pioneer Tool is a distributor of metal-cutting tools to New England-based manufacturers.  In addition to providing customers with new tools, Pioneer Tool has an on-site regrind facility that also has special tooling capabilities.  In 1969, the Company moved to W. Springfield, MA, and expanded the building to 8,000sq.ft. comprised of the office, the warehouse, and the regrind facility.  In 2012, Pioneer Tool relocated its corporate headquarters and regrind facility to a new, approximately 16,000sq.ft. building located in Agawam, MA.

 

In 1986, James & Gilbert Upson, the sons of Richard Upson, acquired the business and were actively involved in the strategic direction of the Company for more than 20 years.

 

In 2007, Derek Upson, grandson of Richard, and Chris Bignell, son-in-law of Gilbert, acquired the company.
